Saluki Dog 1979 Picture History
The Saluki, royal dog of Egypt, is perhaps the oldest known breed of domesticated dog. He is said to be as old as the earliest known civilization, the claim being based on the fact that the hounds shown on the earliest carvings look more like Salukis than any other breed, they have a Greyhound body with feathered ears, tail, and legs.

This real photo Saluki dog card with a child was issued by Carreras Ltd. in 1936.
This is card number 45 from a set of 50 cards entitled ''Dogs and Friend'' and
was given as a free premium that was inserted into a packet of 10 Carreras Cigarettes.
On the front of the card there is a real photograph and on the back of the card a brief description of the breed written by Lady Kitty Ritson.

These Saluki dogs are lounging in their benched area waiting to be shown or perhaps done for the day and waiting to go home. Everyone who has shown dogs as long as I have remember benched shows as either fond memories or with relief that we do not have to be at the shows all day anymore!
